The Expanding Computing Education Pathways (ECEP) Alliance offers workshops to help start or expand financially self-sustaining computing summer camps. Attendees from our partner and associate states become eligible to apply for up to $4,999 in “seed” funds to buy equipment. Georgia Tech has been running non-residential computing summer camps since 2004. These camps are financially self-sustaining and the camps get statistically significant changes in student’s attitudes toward computing and knowledge of computing concepts.
Workshop learning outcomes:
- Know what to consider when starting or expanding computing summer camps for grades 4-12+ students
- Equipment/tools that can be used in camps
- Details on how to run, advertise, and evaluate the camps
- How to apply for the “seed” money and how the applications are evaluated
- How to apply for up to $4,999.99 in seed funds. We have a total of $45,000 in seed funds for equipment for camps thanks to a generous gift from Oracle and funds from NSF. Only those from ECEP partner and associate states (AL, AR, CA, CT, GA, IN, MA, MD, NC, NH, NV, PR, RI, SC, TX, UT, and VA) can apply for the seed funds for equipment.
Who can attend?
High school computing teachers, university and community college faculty and staff, and non-profit organizations that run camps at colleges or universities can attend. Participants can attend in person or virtually using Blackboard Collaborate (webinar software). To attend remotely, you will just need a browser and connection to the internet.
Our workshops are free. Lunch will be provided. Depending on available funding, we may have residual funds available for mileage (subject to availability).
